Curaçao Gaming Control Board Unveils Final Regulatory Framework Transition for Crypto Operators

As of this morning, all existing operators holding sub-licenses must submit their formal digital applications to the GCB online portal to ensure uninterrupted operations. Under the revised National Ordinance for Games of Chance (LOK), operators using digital assets will face stricter AML and KYC requirements while benefiting from direct governmental backing.

“Our primary focus during this transition is ensuring that international standards of compliance do not stifle technological innovation,” said Cedric Pietersz, Managing Director of the Curaçao Gaming Control Board. “By codifying crypto-specific rules directly into our primary legislation, Curaçao provides a highly stable, secure environment for operators and players alike.”

The GCB's new guidelines outline specific reserve-ratio requirements for crypto casinos, mandating that digital asset holdings match player balances on a 1-to-1 ratio at all times. Regulatory audits will now be conducted bi-annually, leveraging decentralized ledger data to automate compliance verification.

This structural evolution marks a significant step forward for the global iGaming ecosystem, as Curaçao transitions away from its decades-old master licensing model. Industry experts predict this regulatory clarity will attract institutional investment and major tier-one operators into the web3 gaming space by the end of 2026.
